Faith & The Peace Of God.

Romans 1:17: “…The just shall live by faith”

Philippians 4:6-7: “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Did you say faith and the peace of God? Yes. What does one have to do with the other? The peace of God is one of the companions of faith. Jesus gives us the peace of God so that we can walk in faith. The peace of God removes fear so that there can be faith. It also is one of the indicators that let’s you know that it is God’s will to move forward in a situation where you see no provision. It is not necessarily positive thinking; neither is it simply feeling confident. It is an assurance from God himself that everything is going to work in your behalf in spite of what may be visibly saying the exact opposite. What was it that allowed Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah to boldly tell King Nebuchadnezzar “we are not careful to answer thee in this matter” when they were facing the King’s wrath and certain death in the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:16)? It was the peace of God. What was it that gave Elijah the courage to pour water all over a sacrifice and expect God to set it on fire (I Kings 18:30-39) in defiance of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel’s false prophets that numbered well over 850? It was the peace of God. Why would a poor starving woman, who’s about to take her last handful of meal and make her last supper and die, stop and first take a portion of what little she had to make a meal for a prophet (I Kings 17:8-16). Nothing, but the peace of God! Acting in faith without the peace of God is often not faith at all. It is foolishness! Many times people have made a shipwreck in the name of faith. Before you act in faith, make sure that at least one of faith’s companions is present; namely the peace of God.
