Faith’s Companion: Experience. Romans 1:17: “…The just shall live by faith” Romans 5:3-5: “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” In this series on “The Companions Of Faith” we have attempted to help you recognize the difference in acting in Faith Vs Foolishness. Thus far we have covered the two most important companions that MUST be present when faith is in operation. They are “The Peace Of God” and “The Will (Word) Of God.” They are important because they not only let you know Faith is working, but also empower you to act in Faith. EXPERIENCE, however, is not one of the companions necessary for operating in faith. It is rather one that not only causes our faith to grow by producing hope but also, over time, gives you a familiarly which causes you to expect God to move in a certain way. In other words if you have Experienced situations where the Lord responded in a certain way (or in any number of ways for that matter) once or several times, then you would expect Him to automatically do it again. For instance Moses fully expected God to do something every time he raised or attempted to use the “Rod Of God”, Samson expected to have incredible strength every time he shook himself and finally Elijah fully expected that fire would fall from the sky when he requested it. All based upon Experience. Their faith was based upon Experience with God. However, as in the case of Samson, Experience alone is not always reliable. It must be accompanied by the other two companions and also joined by a right standing with God. So while Experience with God allows us to become familiar with how and if God will work, empowering us to act in Faith, we must make sure that we do not get carried away in pride or anything else that will cause us to be out of right standing with Jesus. For, as sure as Samson was shaved bald we will find ourselves without our anointing and acting in Foolishness and not in Faith. |
