Habakkuk 2:3: “For the vision is yet for an appointed time ,but at the end it shall speak: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”
After receiving promises from God, there may be times when it seems Jesus is either moving too slow or not at all; when in reality it’s neither. God is never late! Even when it appears so, He is still on time. As in the case of Lazarus, the funeral was over 3 days earlier, but nevertheless Jesus was on time to raise him from the dead. The problem is that we think when God tells us something, He intends for it to happen within our time schedule. Unfortunately this thinking can cause us to make major mistakes or even abort our blessings; just like Abraham and Sarah who moved too quickly and ended up making a tragic mistake for everyone involved (Genesis 16-21).There are reasons why God doesn’t work in the time frame that we choose. Here are 3 things to consider when waiting on God’s promise:
GOD’S TIMING: First of all we have to realize that it’s God’s plan and He isn’t limited by time. Also, His way/timing is always perfect. Don’t forget the mistake of Abraham and Sarah. God’s time & plan are always perfect!
GOD’S PROCESS: We are not always prepared to do, be or receive what God has for us and therefore, need to be prepared. Joseph dreamed that he would rule over his brothers, but got high minded and thought that he should rule right then. Unfortunately his mistake showed he wasn’t. Through life’s process Joseph learned how to respect leadership, treat subordinates properly, organize, prepare for difficult times etc and when God’s timing was right Joseph was ready. So understand that we sometimes need to go through a process to be prepared for our blessings.
GOD’S WAY: After knowing God’s will, being prepared and knowing that His time is now; it is important to know how God would have you obtain the promise. For some, as with Joseph, the way will be so clear and so obvious that we will simply be able to walk right into it. However, as in the case of David, it was not necessarily so. King Saul had died along with most of his sons and there was no one to oppose him. It seemed like the time was right, but David knew to seek God for the way. After receiving it he moved as God led and the people came to him and made him King (II Samuel 2). So don’t always make haste. Seek God’s way because it could otherwise end up disastrous. Remember, God may be saying “Yes, But Not Yet!”
