The Focus Of The Single Believer

I Corinthians 7:32, 34: “….He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:” “…the unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit:”

This month’s newsletter ministers to the unmarried members of the church, not excluding those who have suddenly found themselves single for one reason or another. It seems that we are often, although with good intentions, driving them towards acquiring a mate and sometimes making them feel that singleness means incompleteness. We do this through family oriented sermons, innocent comments and a host of unintentional ways. Singles need to realize that they are not second-class citizens of the Kingdom. As the above scriptures indicates, singles are vibrant, essential and significant members of the Body of Christ that help make the church relevant in the world today. Through volunteering, organizing and participating in the various ministries and events they make up an integral part of the church’s success. As the Word says, unmarried folks care for the things of the Lord! Apostle Paul, a young widower, contributed greatly to the writings, growth and mentoring within the early church. Could it have been because he had more availability than those who had families to care for? In most cases the unmarried are able to give more of their time to the ministries of the local church than their counterparts. As we mentioned earlier Singleness does not mean Incompleteness. The scripture tells us that we, which includes unmarried believers, are complete in Christ (Col. 2:10), THEREFORE WE ARE NOT LOOKING TO FIND SOMEONE TO MAKE US COMPLETE! Instead as an unmarried/single you should be taking the time to know yourself. Learn to understand and develop your gifts, strengths and talents. Get your education and start your careers. Move forward in dedicating your time, talent and treasure to the glory of God. You are important to the Lord right where you are! So FOCUS on Him because your best life is hid in Christ (Col. 3:3)!
