Making It To “Highly”
Romans 12:3:“For I say, through the grace given unto me to everyman that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”
Ephesians 4:1: “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.”
Romans 6:18: “Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.”
Some of us read the above scripture and assume that we should not have a high opinion of ourselves, when the truth is, before you can get to MORE HIGHLY you must first get to HIGHLY. Referring to ourselves in terms of being unworthy, filthy rags, unfit, nothing in us being good; we mistakenly think that we are displaying humility and meekness. What’s sad is we do this even after we’ve been washed in the precious blood of Jesus. This type of thinking greatly hinders our holy walk by subconsciously giving us excuses for living ungodly lives and causes us to settle for being less than we are. You know, a filthy sinner can’t help from sinning. We are no longer servants of sin! The scripture teaches us that we are the righteousness of God, a holy nation, royal priesthood, chosen generation, peculiar people and of course sons of God. We are not attempting to cause anyone to become an egomaniac, but we are certainly encouraging you to live up to the standard of our given place in this world. The object to thinking HIGHLY of ourselves is to make living a life of sin something that is beneath us, repulsive, shameful and an insult. We are “The Light Of The World” and given that responsibility we need to attune our thinking about ourselves so that we can carry ourselves in the proper manner. Some will say that this is a lot of pressure, but it only becomes pressure when you don’t think of yourself properly. As a man thinketh in his heart so is he. Let us, for our sake and the cause of Christ think HIGHLY!
