Are You In Love With God?

Deuteronomy 6:5: “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”
Deuteronomy 30:20: “That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days….”

You may have never thought of it in this way, but even our Lord and Savior Jesus needs and desires our love. We are not asking if you like or love Jesus, but whether you are in love with Him. Do you have a passion for Jesus like He has for you? You see, many people come to church and don’t live in a right relationship with Him simply because they have no passion for the Lord. Doing right towards the Lord is not as difficult when you are in love with Him. In fact, when in love with Jesus, you seem to instinctively protect the intimacy of His presence in your life. If you know what I’m talking about, say amen. There are even times when you don’t want to leave the blissfulness embodied in the presence of the Lord. Those that are not in love with the Lord cannot relate. They go through the motions, seek to find the secrets to obtaining blessing from Jesus and maintain just enough of a relationship with Him to say they love Him. However, the reality of that so called love doesn’t move them to delve into a fellowship that causes that love to be genuine. They never move into a place where they want to please Jesus. It only seems to stop at the superficial. Loving what Jesus provides and loving Jesus are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Just like there are people who like what they get from you, but don’t necessarily care for you; there are people who do the same to Jesus. They can like your fame or money and not like you at all. The Lord’s passionate love for us requires, more than anything else, that we also passionately adore Him. All throughout the scriptures, (Jesus’ love letter to us) He is asking us to love Him and requests proof of said love (Jn14:15). There is also the Lord’s pursuing, wooing and drawing us with His loving kindness and everlasting love (Jer31:3). When we look further we find Jesus in clear disappointment over our unrequited love towards Him (Rev2:4). Finally there is Christ’s forgiveness for our lack of demonstrated love and an invitation to have Him come in and renew that which has been long lost (Rev3:19-21). Again, I repeat the question: Are You In Love With God?
