Unlike the babe in this passage we often find ourselves in situations that are a direct result of our own decisions, desires, thoughts and actions. If we are honest with ourselves we will admit that, most of the time, we end up in these life experiences through nobody’s fault but our own. While we would like to think that we are suffering for Christ, the truth is that the majority of what we go through is not. How often have we chosen to be in a bad relationship, used our credit cards unwisely, failed to take responsibility for something, leaned on someone else far too long, done things in the heat of the moment only to end up having to deal with the consequences of these actions to our own detriment? Blaming it on everything and everyone (including the Devil) will not change our state of affairs, neither will avoiding them. We must face them and take responsibility for our actions. I know this is sometimes hard, but this is how we learn and grow. I realize that there are many lessons we can learn from the mistakes made by others, but in life there are some lessons that we must learn via our own experiences. Sometimes these lessons will bring us embarrassment, loss, pain and even hurt. They may also be so painful that we may want to go somewhere and die, but there is good news. Despite the fact that we may be the blame for all of this, God says to us, just as He did to the babe, “LIVE!” Regardless of how bad things are the Lord desires that we survive and thrive. In other words He wants you to LIVE through all of your mistakes and become the wonderful creation He intended. Growing through your mistakes, mishaps and downright rebellion causes you to feel better about yourself and ultimately leads you to liking and loving oneself releasing you to become a better child of God. Therefore judge yourself, forgive yourself, be responsible for yourself and thereby free yourself! For Jesus said “I am come that you might have life more abundantly.” |
