Embrace The Peace Of God.

Philippians 4:6-7: “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

What is it and how do we obtain it? It is the assurance from God that everything is going to workout in your behalf in spite of the circumstance or outcome of the circumstance. It is that which allows us to have calmness instead of worry at a time when we would normally be pulling our hair out or biting our nails to the nub. Remember the song entitled “Don’t Worry Be Happy?” The peace of God allows us to do just that. Andre Crouch wrote a song with the following lyrics: “Somebody told me of the joy that they had. Somebody told me that in sorrow, that they could be glad. Somebody told me they once were bound, but now set free. I didn’t think it could be until it happened to me.” These lyrics describe someone who has embraced the peace of God. We all face difficulties at one time or another (if you haven’t just keep on living), times when we don’t know how things are going to turn out, times when we feel that our Lord is afar off and not necessarily moving as fast as we would like. It is certainly good to know that we can literally be at ease in times such as these. In John 14:27 Jesus said “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Isn’t it wonderful to know that this at our disposal? Our text teaches us to express our worries and anxieties to God in (1) prayer, (2) supplications with (3) thanksgiving. (1) Prayer: Talk to God about it thoroughly expressing everything about your situation. (a) It is because you need to do it and (b) because Jesus cares about you (I Peter 5:7). Sometimes our problems are a lot bigger in our heads than they are in reality and simply by expressing them verbally it brings relief. (2) Supplicate: Sincerely and humbly entreat God for his help as you rely on his promises. (3) Take the time to thank him for answering your prayer, hearing and handling your concerns. When you know he hears you and cares it doesn’t hurt to show confidence and gratitude in his ability to help (I John 5:14-15). It is important to know the promises of God for he holds his word above his very name and it gives us ground to stand on when beseeching him. After doing this you will find yourself walking around without worry. You won’t necessarily know exactly when it actually begins nor will you necessarily understand it, but one thing is for certain; you will embrace it. Share this with someone who needs it.
